Do you know your neighbourhood?

Another CLIL e-project coming from URJC is coming today. It is called 'Do you know your neighborhood?'

It is a collaborative e-project carried out by a team of Pre-Service Teachers in the Master’s Degree of Bilingual Education at URJC.

The team is composed by:
@Alvaro_Gope, @Marta_Gayarre, @22paau, @maradominguezgo and @nepeusp.

They want to introduce their e-project throughout the infographic they have elaborated using the tool called 'Canva'. The aim of the infographic is that students know how the projects work through visual support and the augmented reality of Aurasma.

From their point of view,  it is important as teachers to bear in mind the benefits that the use of infographics for our students has. It allows them to learn better and it has a lot of positive effects for those whose learning style is visual.

As regards the tool they used, 'Canva', it has a lot of resources in order to create an infographic. However, only few things are free, but the tool allows you to create your own template. In their group, they decided to create their own design and the final result is great!

They strongly recommend to use it!

Learning about the body & senses with ICT

Today we are sharing an educational infographic aimed at learning about the body and the senses for Primary CLIL education.

This infographic has been designed by a team of students at the URJC working on a CLIL e-project called Body and senses. It is a collaborative e-project carried out in the Master’s Degree of Bilingual Education.

They want to introduce their e-project throughout the infographic they have elaborated using the tool called “Piktochart”. The main aim of it is to provide our third graders with a visual support of the main task they are going to do.

From these pre-service teachers' point of view, the use of infographics is a great resource to be included in the classroom since it eases the understanding of the instructions and it fosters the learning-teaching process. In this light, both teacher and students can take advantage of this fantastic webtool.

Related with the tool they used, “Piktochart”, they believe that it is a great e-tool which allows us to create engaging infographics in order to present projects and other kinds of visual presentations. It offers many features, backgrounds, icons, pictures and templates to personalise work as the customization is much nicer and it provides a dynamic experience rather than using traditional resources. Moreover, you can upload your own images, video, maps and modify them.

It is a great free resource, available online so everybody can use it only by signing up - freely, too. For these reasons, they highly recommend Piktochart due to its simplicity and usefulness.

Have a look at their infographic on the following link:

The whole team hope you like it!

The Earth's Adventures

We are sharing a new outcome by a team from the Master's degree in Bilingual Education at Primary Education Schools at the Rey Juan Carlos University. In their subject related to use of ICT in the CLIL classroom, they were asked to participate in this InfoEduGraphic project by their teacher, and here are the results: For this task they had to work in groups to create an InfoEdufoGraphic. The members of this group are: @lainez_ortega@cristinarisueno@GMEstrellaa and @gonzaalo10. To do this they surfed the InfoEduGraphic Project Site to look for tips, instructions and ideas.

Since all their e-projects (Planets in the Solar SystemThe HydrosphereEnvironmental careThe Mysteries of Earth) are connected with Social Science (planets, Earth, landscapes and so forth), they decided to make an infographic as an introductory tool for a common topic. Their main learning outcome is for their students to know about the planets of the Solar System, The Earth`s layers (Hydrosphere and atmosphere) and landforms as well as environmental care.

First they assigned the roles:

@GMEstrellaa was the coordinator. She had to direct and check that each member did his part of the job. She also encouraged us to keep working on the infographic.

@gonzaalo10 was the supervisor and he was in charge of controlling the creation process and remembering each person's task. He also had to take notes of everybody's ideas.

@lainez_ortega and @cristinarisueno were the secretaries. They made and create the InfoEduGraphic using Piktochart and Thinglink.

- Finally, (@celiagon92was the speaker. This is why she is the one spreading their work at Twitter and through this blog, as well as her classmates'.

To accomplish this task, they had to face two problems:

  1. How to link all their e-projects contents: After thinking about it for a while, they decided to structure the infoedugraphic from the most asbtract content (the space) to the most concrete one (landforms). This way, we could include all our Social Science contents in a structured and well-organised way. In order to motivate their students, they added a badge that they could get once they finished the learning process.
  2. How to adapt the contents to the different school levels: this challenge was harder to face but finally they thought of making an interactive InfoEduGraphic. What does this mean? They did not only design an infographic (which is an image) but also an interactive image. By doing this, they foster an active learning and allow students of different grades to access to different activities of different difficulty. The teacher could guide all this learning process to do the activities corresponding to each course.

They decided to use the tool Piktochart due to the fact that some members of their group had already used it and they said that it could fit the purpose of the project perfectly. It gives you the possibility to create infographics, posters, presentations or reports depending on what you need. The one they chose is an infographic as it is divided into different blocks which were suitable for each difficulty level. The quality of the pictures and icons that the tool offers is quite high and very attractive, exactly what they were looking for: to captivate students’ attention. Finally, they would like to highlight that Picktochart would be perfect if it offered the possibility of making those graphics interactive (pictures with movements, sounds, links to other webpages and so on) instead of being just an image.
Once they had their infographic finished they went on to make it interactive to promote active learning and to increase pupils' motivation. They did this part of the project using the online tool
Thing Link. With this tool you can make an interactive image by putting links in small spots inside your picture. Therefore, they included a video to expand knowledge, interactive activities to review each content and an Arts and Crafts activity about environmental care.
As you can imagine, this tool is inreadibly useful to create your own CLIL materials because, by linking resources, you can work the 4Cs. However, they think this tool would be nicer if it offered a wider variety of forms to insert the links, not only spots.
From this task, they can conclude that Infographics have a lot of uses in our classrooms. They can be used to introduce content, to review vocabulary, to explain the steps of a process or activity, to help children with special educational needs. Infographics present information in a neat and visual way that can clarify students' doubts. Moreover, students can also create their own infographics to learn about content and ICT skills. Their final artifact is this amazing interactive InfoEduGraphic to introduce and learn about different contents regarding our planet. This augmented infographic has been designed with Piktochart first and then augmented with Aurasma. In order to reveal the hidden augmented educational value, these teachers have placed detailed instructions for students to be able to accomplish the challenge. Do not hesitate to follow their public channel at Aurasma and discover it yourself too.

This team, working on a CLIL e-project for Primary Education at the moment, claim that

'Working with infographics is a very illustrative way to show our students whatever we want as teachers of primary education. Any content of any subject could be taught through a project with Infographics.
For us, while we were doing this challenge, we realised that working on "Infographics" is a very helpful way to summarize in a visual way any content.'

How to create your own timeline

Today we are sharing an infographic by a group of students at the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid. They want to collaborate in our project as part of their ICT subject within the Master's Degree on CLIL and Primary Education they are currently doing.

They are working on a collaborative CLIL e-project about History, so they want to share with us the infographic they have created for students to design their own online timeline.

For this purpose they have decided to use Piktochart, which they think is a great tool to create infographics easily. They claim this online web tool allows people to use images, icons, backgrounds, different text formats and templates and whatever they like to add. The result is amazing and the best thing: everything is free!

Here you are their digital outcome:

This infographic is aimed at a CLIL history lesson in which students will be able to design an online timeline on their own. Since they will be doing something autonomously they will learn the content while they enjoy working with ICT.

Olympic Games in Europe

Travelling around Europe is the name of the CLIL collaborative e-project a team of Master's Degree Pre-Service teachers are developing these days at URJC.

Meet them through their Twitter handles or visit their portfolios:

María Dolores Berral Raya @lolaberralraya 'Experiencing being a bilingual teacher'.

María Inmaculada Caballero Torres @teacher_inma 'CLIL with teacher Inma'.

Ana Martín Vincent @ana_mv9 'Learning with Ana'

Natalia Menchón Rodriguez @Nataliamenchon 'ICT + CLIL Useful Learning'

Elena Ortiz Martin  @elena_ormar 'Learning About ICT in Bilingual Teaching'

Victor Rodriguez Sanchez @VictorodRS 'Education is the beginning'

As part of this e-project they want to introduce the infographic they have elaborated with a key aim: providing their students with guidance to tackle one of the tasks within the full e-project.

They consider an infographic as a visual representation of data. In the one they are presenting, you can see follow up directions about the task they expect their Third Grade students to tackle.  They believe that this is a good resource for both teachers and students.

In their opinion Piktochart, the e-tool they have chosen, is the perfect tool to create attractive infographics, and presentations or reports for their lessons. Among its features they highlight the templates, backgrounds, graphics and different types of fonts. When one finishes one's design, one can also download it in different formats or share it.  They claim they cannot think of any disadvantage since they consider that it worked fantastic and allowed them to develop their digital outcome without any problem.

As they have mentioned before, teachers can use infographics for many purposes in lessons. For instance, to support learners with special needs, as an infographic allows the teacher to present information in a more visual way; or to clarify those concepts that are usually more difficult to understand. Furthermore, due to its ease of use, students can  use it too.  For example they could use it to summarize their learning. In this way, apart from revising one subject content they would also have the possibility to practise their ICT skills!

Music is Fun

I am so grateful for the opportunity of have been participating in this project. I had no idea what an infographic was, I had seen some before but I did not know what exactly was and I found them very useful. Now, I can summarize an infographic as a work tool where  you can see just at a glance the description of a process with a compilation of pictures supporting some ideas.

For my infoEDUgrafía I was looking for something special that could allow me to include some nice, clear and neat pictures. So that, I took a look at the tools provided in the website of the project (https://sites.google.com/site/infoedugrafias/herramientas) and Canva caught my eye.

Canva has free registration and not only many resources to apply but also a big range of pictures, what I think is very important in order to make my project more visual. So after a while testing how Canva worked the first thing I may say is that you have to be careful when choosing your images or icons because not all of them are for free and they will appear to you mixed up. However, there are plenty of opportunities to be used. The designs are really cool and I enjoyed myself building up my project and selecting different layouts, different kind of texts, labels, charts, pictures, icons and so forth.
In addition to this, Canva is really user-friendly and intuitive but there are two things that I did not like it at all. The first one is that you can not save your project whenever you want, they make it for you every second but sometimes the site get stuck and you loose the latest you made. The other thing is that when I shared the link with the final project some things had changed or disappeared, that is why I think Canva should check this sort of things.

Finally, making infographics with children can be useful and handy for their projects if they need to make a graphic, a chart or a diagram. Furthermore, is good for teachers to reorganise the content and to make successful the teaching-learning process.

Chef of volume

I´m Marta Plaza del Monte, a 26 year old pre-primary teacher from Madrid. I´m studying a Bilingual Primary Education Master’s degree, which has a module about how ICT should be an essential resource at schools.

I have created an infoEDUgraphic based on the information of the outline I previously designed for my future eBook about mathematics for 3rd graders.

After investigating how the other tools work (Easel.ly, Canva…), PIKTOCHART has been the tool I have finally decided to use. I really enjoyed learning how it works. It has a multitude of icons, photographs and even the possibility to upload your own photograph. I should say I did not have to use my own ones as I have had enough resources in the tool.  I also found quite useful the rotate tool for texts and icons as well as the flip tool (left/right, top/bottom) and the opacity tool to highlight whatever you really want. Graphs, maps and even videos could be created.

From my point of view, it is a very easy online infographic design tool that requires very little effort to produce beautiful, high quality graphics so I am sure I will introduce it to my future students. I will plan some tasks which involved its use as it is very intuitive. I'm going to continue using Piktochart as one of my favourite designing tools and I will continue creating infoEDUgraphics to make my lessons more attractive for my students.

Thank you Maria Jesus @mjgsm for this tool recommendation that makes my ideas engaging and entertaining for everyone else to see them.

Across the Music

I spend a lot of time surfing on the website “InfoEDUgrafías”  because this kind of website is always interesting for me. The reason is, for me (as a teacher that is not teaching now), these kind of experiences show me that we can do different things in our classrooms.

For the creation of the infographic is important to summarize the information. This tool made me think about how clear my idea was. A way for achieve it was to think that I had to explain the whole project to the students only with a few slides, including relevant information for the teacher.

Canva is an enjoyable tool for using with children. If I had to do this activity with children, I would use it at the end of the project. Students need more time in order to summarize the information and choose the framework of the infographic. However, when the project is finished, this tool is very intuitive with a lot of pictures. Children can add their own pictures so they have lots of choices.

I totally agree with teachers who said that it could be more interesting that students create their own infographic. There are a lot of possibilities for creating infographics with different and imaginative designs. Instead of use presentation, an infographic could be a good choose for showing a project or a school work.

Investigate about your favourite animals

My name is Aser and I am a Primary school teacher who has worked in state-funded schools for 6 years now. Currently I am the Bilingual Coordinator of CEIP Gonzalo de Berceo in Coslada and I am teaching Science, English and Art in first and second grade.

I made this infographic for my students to be able to investigate and learn on their own. I believe it is a very visual way of explaining something. As you can see, throughout this infographic I developed some general ideas that I will take into account when publishing an e-book. I tried to focus on the why and the how as well as on the what. I decided to use Canva since it is a very friendly and easy to use tool. If I were to publish another infographic I would use the same tool.

Here you are my outcome:

The Connected Painters

Hi! My name is María and I’m a Primary Education teacher. I finished last year my degree and this year I’m doing a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Education. We are learning a lot with the Master’s subjects, specially with the subject entitled The use of ICT and Digital Resources.

Through this subject where are learning how to teach our students, to be able to manage the amount of information on Internet, useful web services, tools and apps to create motivating content and the most important, to be safe when we are connected.

One of the most important activities that we are doing is creating our eBook. We have been working step by step, participating in a collaborative brainstorming, creating our own Creative Commons License, choosing the subject, taking ideas and evaluating other eBooks, selecting the resources that we are going to use and creating the skeleton of our eBook.

Now, as part of InfoEDUgraphics, each of us has created an infographic of our eBook. For my eBook, I have chosen Canva, because it is easy to create your own designs and you can add a lot of illustrations, graphics, images, bubbles, and so forth

For this presentation, I have decided to use the same format as the skeleton of our eBook and I have tried to do it more visual and clear. As you can see there are five big blocks: Content, Communication, Methodology, Materials and Resources, Key Competence and Evaluation. Inside of each one there are the most important things that we are going to work with along this eBook, including the tasks and activities.

Hope you like it! The Connected Painters

The ancient ebook of the storytellers' secrets

Hello everybody!

My name is Marta López Fabero and I'm a 22 year old primary teacher from Madrid. I've joined a Master's Degree about the Bilingual Program and one of my modules is about promoting the ability to include ICT as essential resources in our lessons. My professor has asked me to carry out an assignment that consisted of creating an infoEDUgraphic based on the information of the outline I previously designed for my future digital book (another course project).

Firstly, I chose the tool that I would use from the ones that are presented in the blog to create my infoEDUgraphic. I used Canva because it's a useful resource that allows me to create images in a wide variety of formats such as posters, cards, covers, presentations and social networks posts. Also, the libraries provide a huge amount of different titles, images and icons that look very professional. Moreover, you can upload your own pictures and drawings which was an essential feature when I made my decision.

When I began to draft my infoEDUgraphic, I had to think how to summarize the content. I used two mindmaps created with Bubbl.us to present some information and avoid using a list format.
Once it was clear which aspects of the outline I wanted to highlight,  I began to think about ways of making my idea engaging and entertaining (a basic principle in infoEDUgraphics). I used different pictures and my own drawings, combining them with bright titles and colourful backgrounds. During the process, I noticed that my Canva Design was getting slower because of the increase in the number of slides. Once, the tool overloaded and I had to send an email to the support service of Canva, who solved the problems but I lost part of my work. Anyway, I was able to finish it and I'm very pleased with the result.

I strongly recommend these resources, I'm going to continue using Canva as one of my favourite designing tools and I will continue creating infoEDUgraphics to make my lessons more attractive for my students.

Finally, I would like to show you my infoEDUgraphic

I hope you enjoy it!

Landscapes around the world

I am Cristina Fradejas. I am an English teacher. This school year I am teaching 5th and 6th graders. For this reason, I have designed this infoEDUgraphic for grade 5. Moreover, I have developed an infoedugraphic because we are going to become part of this fantastic collaborative project with
infographics at our URJC Master's Degree. It has been such a great experience!

First of all, I would like to mention that Canva, the tool that I have chosen has a lot of advantages. One of them is that it is very easy and friendly, which allows you to create fantastic designs. I found it so interesting and useful that I have used it in class with my students. They have loved it! They were paying a lot of attention to me. So, I consider very advisable to use it!

Now, I will explain the process that I have followed in order to create my infoedugraphic.

As I have mentioned before, it is for 5th graders.

In order to organize myself, first I have created a structure of the steps that all teachers should follow in planning a CLIL lesson. They are: objectives, contents (they must be classified into vocabulary, functions, language skills and discourse type), methodology (including resources, key competencies and class distribution), evaluation criteria (paying special attention to the objectives because they must be interrelated), contextual elements and cognitive thinking processes that must be developed by the students along the challenge.

Once that I had thought about all these elements, I started to create the tasks and activities that my students should tackle. I have tried to be creative making the activities quite interesting and motivating. This way, my students will give enhance their development.

Let me conclude by saying that it has been a pleasure to take part in this collaborative project because I have improved my work as a teacher using other types of materials in my class.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I hope you enjoy the outcome:
